Somewhere, in the midst of nowhere, higher and higher above Howden reservoir you will find High Stones.

High Stones, at 548 metres (1,798 ft), is the highest point within the boundaries of both the City of Sheffield and South Yorkshire, England.[1]

High Stones lies on the Howden Moors towards in the northern Peak District National Park, between Langsett Reservoir to the north-east and Howden Reservoir to the south-west.

It’s not part of the routine or regular walks most guides would offer, but this walk starts either at Langsett Reservoir, or Ladybower Reservoir, and is a full day out, expect 7 to 8 hrs walk, its definitely a walk of 2 distinct halves, with the our being almost all “up” and back being almost all “down”.
It’s windswept, its barren, its beautiful. And while sitting snacking your lunch at High Stones, you can be safe in the knowledge that when you tell your friends where you went, even if they are active walkers, they will likely answer with “Where?”.

You will need decent fitness, and be happy to pack for all the weathers the uk can throw at us.
There are no toilets on the way, no cafe’s and definitely no McDonalds. In my mind that makes it AWESOME.

This walk is not bookable as an open session, its for groups who want a great day out.
